Itinerary: 3 days tour from Marrakech to Fes
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
Your adventure begins in the early morning as you depart Marrakech, leaving behind the vibrant medina and heading south toward the High Atlas Mountains. The road climbs steadily to the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m), offering breathtaking views of mountain peaks, deep valleys, and traditional Berber villages built into the hillsides. Frequent stops allow you to capture photos and experience daily life in the mountains.
The journey continues to the legendary Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s best-preserved earthen fortresses. You explore its ancient alleyways, clay towers, and hilltop views while learning about its role as a key stop on old caravan routes and as a filming location for world-famous movies.
After lunch near the kasbah, you pass through Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Sahara,” and drive along the scenic Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. Palm groves, fortified villages, and red-rock landscapes dominate the scenery as you enter the stunning Dades Valley, famous for its dramatic rock formations and winding canyon roads.
Overnight: Traditional riad or hotel in Dades Valley
Dinner included
Day 2: Dades Valley – Todgha Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga – Sahara Camel Trek
After breakfast, you follow the Dades River deeper into the mountains, stopping at panoramic viewpoints overlooking the impressive Dades Canyon. The road then leads you to the spectacular Todgha Gorge, where sheer limestone cliffs rise nearly 300 meters above the river. You enjoy free time to walk through the gorge, feel the cool air, and admire one of Morocco’s most dramatic natural landscapes.
From here, the scenery slowly transforms as you travel through desert towns and oases toward Erfoud, a region famous for fossils and date palms. The air becomes warmer, the land flatter, and the sense of adventure grows as the Sahara approaches.
By late afternoon, you arrive in Merzouga, at the edge of the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes. You mount your camel and begin a peaceful trek across the golden sands, watching the dunes change color as the sun sets. Silence, vastness, and light define this unforgettable moment.
At your desert camp, you receive a warm Berber welcome, enjoy a traditional dinner, and spend the evening listening to Berber music around the campfire under a sky filled with stars.
Overnight: Authentic or luxury Sahara desert camp
Dinner & breakfast included
Day 3: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Cedar Forest – Fes
You wake early to witness a magical sunrise over the Sahara dunes, one of the most powerful experiences of the tour. After breakfast, you return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4 and begin your journey north toward Fes.
The road follows the lush Ziz Valley, lined with thousands of palm trees and fortified villages. Several stops offer panoramic views of this green ribbon cutting through the desert landscape. After lunch in Midelt, you cross the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing through cedar forests near Azrou, where Barbary macaques often roam freely.
